About DJ Skate
DJ Skate is a special event that happens every Friday evening at the Danbury Ice Arena in downtown CityCenter Danbury during the public school calendar. During the public ice skating session we lower the arena lighting, turn on our dj lighting and turn the rink into a disco skating session. We set up
our sound system right on the ice, so we are able to take requests and play today's hottest music. There are different DJ's each week as well as
special guest DJ's. There is a average of 100-250 people every DJ Skate Friday as well as birthday and private parties. Our target age range is
middle and high school students but offers something for all ages.
DJ Skate started 18 years ago, but it all first began in June 2002 when Dave Parks of Spin Doctor DJ was contacted to do a "End of Year, Summer Bash" to start bringing a younger crowd into the newly opened Danbury Ice Arena. With the success of this event other events followed such as "Halloween Costume Party" and "Wild Winter Warm Up". Finally in the winter of 2002/2003, Dave Parks of Spin Doctor DJ and Former Danbury Ice Arena Manager Todd Francis and Office Manager Lisa Franze created DJ Skate, a event that would happen every Friday evening during public session. We figured out how to set up out sound system right on the ice so that we could interact with the skaters. Kids would skate to today's hottest music during the Friday night public session. As this event became even more successful in the winter of 2003/2004, Dave Parks of Spin Doctor DJ invested in a light show which he added, and the arena lighting was turned out, to give a disco dance party effect. DJ skate happens every Friday, 6 months a year from
October/November till the end of March. DJ Skate success is still growing as the crowds continue to grow weekly. Other ice rinks in the nation are
catching on to the DJ Skate craze and copying it but it all started right here at the Danbury Ice Arena. DJ Skate is run weekly by Spin Doctor DJ, in conjunction with the Danbury Ice Arena.
